A PILIEROMAZZA WEBINAR
SBICs, or Small Business Investment Companies, offer a unique approach to private equity investment in small business contractors and most of the small businesses and investors we encounter have not heard of SBICs or are not very familiar with the program.
A typical private equity investment would cause affiliation, and ruin a company’s small business status, because the private equity investor often insists on rights that give it (in SBA’s view) too much control over the business. SBICs, however, are exempt from SBA’s affiliation rules. In that way, SBICs are a real game-changer for private equity investments in small business contractors.
If you are a small business or private equity investor, please plan to attend this complimentary webinar. Join Jon Williams, Partner in the Government Contracts Group, and Kimi Murakami, Counsel in the Business and Corporate Group as they:
- Provide an overview of the SBIC Program
- Discuss how a fund becomes certified as an SBIC, and SBA’s role
- Address how SBIC investments are structured
- Explain restrictions on SBIC lending
- Provide the unique advantages this program offers through the affiliation exemption and for 8(a) companies.
